What is the process?

Consultation

How do we know what trees to harvest?

How do we know what trees to harvest?

Once you contact us, we will schedule a consultation. During the consultation, we will evaluate your timber and discuss with you the different options we have available.

How do we know what trees to harvest?

There are two different ways we can price your timber after the evaluation. The first way is to mark the trees to be harvested, this way only the marked trees are felled and processed. The second way is to harvest according to a certain stump size. Stump sizes range from 16" to 22" in diameter at the stump.

Which way the timber is priced and harvested depends on both the landowner's preference and also the size and quality of the timber. Larger, higher valued trees are usually marked to prepare for the timber process. A forest with smaller or lower value trees are usually harvested on a stump size.

Under Contract

Will I need to claim this on my taxes?

Once a price is agreed upon a contract will be signed by both parties. You will receive earnest money that will act as a down payment on the contract. But don't worry, you will receive the full remaining balance of the contract before any trees are felled.

We pay you in full before any trees are harvested. We feel this helps to eliminate any confusion or uneasy feelings that comes with other profit-sharing contracts.

Yes, unfortunately we all have to pay our taxes. Selling your timber is usually seen as a short- or long-term capital gain and we will require you to fill out a W-9. You will then receive a 1099 form from us at the end of the year.

Our timber contracts usually have a one-year end date. We try our best to work around your schedule, but our job is very dependent on the weather. We can discuss any requirements you need before signing the contract and do our best to work with you.

We're done. Now what?

Once the logging process has finished, we bring in a dozer to level any ruts on the landing area and skid roads. Tree tops are left for the landowner. These make good firewood once seasoned.
